Hmmm. Solved one of these problems at least.

Yes, this behaviour occurs with XToolBox running. This is just a little button
bar tool but it has seemed very stable and sweet up till now. But, it seems
that once a button is clicked on it (partially) sets the WB font to its
button font. Looks like this is also what's screwing up the font measuring
routines.
